Ka Kite…. Tau Faa…Arohanui..Herbert Hoffman 1919 - 2010 { 0 }
Moko Ink is sad to announce the passing of Herbert Hoffman, an inspirational friend and Artist…
The last time we were all together was in 2007 when Herbert received, at the age of 87 years old and after more than 60 years of tattoo experience, collecting and creating, received his first Polynesian Hand Tool Tatau, becoming Moko Ink’s oldest recipient of a tradional tattoo.
Inia, along with Kate Knowles from Chapel Tattoo in Melbourne, had the honour at the Amsterdam Convention to create one of the oldest tattoo symbols, Ta Vake or Frigate Bird, on the hand of probably the world’s oldest practising Tattooist.
Herbert Hoffman opened a Tattoo Studio in Hamburg shortly after the Second World War and was considered one of the Great Grandfathers of European Tattoo. The world was a richer place with his art and literature and the contributions he made for almost a century. May we all aspire to have a life as long and as productive…..
Arohanui…… go in peace ….. Herbert….
(Calen Paris of Moko Ink attended Herbert’s funeral on behalf of all of us here)….
